Responsibilities

 

Purpose: 

As the Human Resources Assistant you will support management on the interpretation and implementation of Nippon Express HR policies & processes to ensure alignment, capability and engagement of all employees in order to achieve Nippon's goals. This position will help support the West Region’s HR Management Team and sit in a field role supporting 300+ employees .

 

The primary focus will be to support and oversee HR functions  to include Recruiting, Onboarding, Employee Relations, Benefits and Payroll functions for the region operating in multi states located in California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Texas, Hawaii & Utah. 

 

Essential Duties:

  • Maintain HR Filing Systems
  • Compile HR and Payroll related reports for management
  • Review T&A to ensure compliance with policies and ensure proper pay code is applied in accordance with company policies
  • Manage/coordinate the Recruitment process for the West region including job postings, screening, orientation and on-boarding.
  • Support with the management of the employee relations process for the local branch to assure fair and equitable resolution of issues.
  • Conduct Exit interviews and support managment with the transition of departing employees
  • Support Benefits team with new hire enrollment, annual open enrollment and act as a liason to support the Benefits team with any employee changes and/or resolve any discrepancies
  • Ensure the local branch is in compliance with all applicable Employment Laws and Regulations.
  • Participate in the local Safety Committe Program
  • Track all WC claims, LOAs and report to Sr Manager
  • Support the local Traffic Team with the DOT Program to include background check and drug/alcohol screening
  • Answer and process employees inquiries in a professional and prompt manner
  • Provide guidance, counsel and active support to local branch and employees regarding implementation of HR policies and processes.
  • Inform Sr. and HR Manager of concerns or complaints raised by client group which have potential for charges being filed against the Company.
  • Other duties as required to meet the business demands

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3 years of broad Human Resources experience in all functional areas.
  • Associate's degree in business or related field or equivalent related experience. 
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state employment labor laws and regulations.
  • Experience using a HRIS system: ADP Workforce, iCIMS a plus
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office software products: Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  • Outstanding organizational and time management abilities
  • Strong knowledge of HR processes including; staffing, job posting, performance review, & processes for the Branch
  • Ability to work independently 
  • Work Schedule Monday - Friday
  • Work Location: El Segundo, California
  • Range: $22-$26/hr

 

Organization Relationships:

  • This position interacts with all levels of employees at the Branch, Regional Administration HR, Head Office HR & Legal.
  • Must be comfortable and effective in working with local employees as well as rotational staff.
  • May work with Federal & State Government Agencies

 

Work Environment:

  • This position requires working in an office setting, long period of time sitting.
  • This position occasionally requires physical demands to include, but not limited to standing, walking, sitting, bending, twisting, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, and carrying heavy objects repeatedly.
  • The position may be exposed to a warehouse environment which may be noisy and subject to varying temperatures.
